Fiske and Herrera Win Acoustic Music Contest

Fiske and Herrera Win Acoustic Music Contest
Music duo continues to create a stir

Massachusetts – Music duo Fiske and Herrera are creating quite a stir in the on-line music world. Known for their tight harmony and ambitious arrangements, the singer-songwriters recently won first and third place in the OurStage.com Acoustic Music Channel competition. Their song “Bad Dream," from their debut CD “Just Breathe,” won first place and  "The Explanation," also on the CD, took third place. "Bad Dream" placed in the top ten for the cross-genre finals, as well.

The duo officially formed two years ago when longtime friends Jared Fiske and Amy Herrera found themselves on parallel paths. Both had recently abandoned long-held jobs and lifestyles in exchange for a chance to write, record, and perform full time. The two soon realized that the merging of their considerable talents “yielded a whole that was far greater than its parts,” said Fiske.

In 2006, Fiske and Herrera embarked on a two-and-a-half month tour of the United States. Upon their return, they began crafting the beginnings of what would become their debut CD, "Just Breathe," released in September 2007. The release was followed by a more focused tour of the Northeast. Performances feature both Jared and Amy on lead vocals and acoustic guitars.

Words of praise follow the duo wherever they perform, be it live or on the Internet. Molly Milsau, on a Minor 7th podcast, commented, "[Fiske and Herrera’s]...precise harmonies, polished arrangements and Jared Fiske's floating, oddly-metered guitar playing are a winning formula for some incredible music."

"People's response to our writing has been phenomenal. We had no idea people would feel the same way we do about the songs we've written. It makes you feel very connected to the world,” said Herrera.

Fiske concurred. "The most gratifying times have been when people approach us and say that the album has helped them through a hard time. That was always the goal, but it was unexpected nonetheless, and it's a very worthwhile feeling."
