Amcomm Wireless ProSERVICES Brings Wireless World
to St. Joseph’s Students
Sturbridge and Webster, MA – Rev. Monsignor Anthony Czarnecki, rector and headmaster of St. Joseph’s School in Webster had a vision—to introduce St. Joseph’s students to “technology that would complement the latest textbooks and make the learning process more effective for students with diverse abilities.” With one computer lab and no classroom computers available, he turned to Amcomm ProSERVICES, a Sturbridge-based wireless communications company, to find a way to increase the students’ exposure to and expertise with twenty-first century technology.
Amcomm ProSERVICES not only met the challenge, they exceeded the Monsignor’s expectations. “Using our relationships with various distributors, and with the assistance of Ewa Mamro, St. Joseph’s technology coordinator, we were able to help the school get several new and used computers,” said Amcomm ProSERVICES president Kyriakos Konstantakis. “In addition we installed and configured secure wireless Internet access for the school.”
ProSERVICES has enabled students to post homework on-line, take practice quizzes and tests, and use the Internet as an informational resource. “The school now has specific software that covers geography, math, history, science, social studies, and reading via the Internet,” added Konstantakis. “Students will also learn how to fully use word processing software and create spreadsheets to manage data. Programs such as Inspiration and Kidspiration help kids hone their writing skills.”
All student and faculty computers have state-of-the-art managed switches and Sonic Wall Firewalls for added security and efficiency. “This allows for the monitoring and prevention of inappropriate Internet content. We’ve also facilitated communications via e-mail between student, teachers, and parents,” said Konstantakis.
Teachers can connect to on-line educational supplements that complement the curriculum, such as textbook web site tie-ins with McGraw-Hill. Students log onto the McGraw-Hill web site, select their class curricula, click on their textbook, and find supplemental lessons, reviews, quizzes, even vocabulary builders.
“I used it in my classroom for the first time the other day,” said Donna Recko, a third grade teacher at St. Joseph’s. “The next morning one of the boys asked if we could use the computer lesson again. ‘It was really cool,’ he told me. ‘It really rocks!’”
In addition to working with area school systems, Amcomm ProSERVICES provides IT assistance with Linux, Microsoft, and MacIntosh platforms, including voice and data networks, business analytics and data management, Internet-based video surveillance, web site design and hosting, and engineering services.
