The Hair Gallery Salon and Spa ––Where Art and Artistry Meet

Southbridge, MA – When Lynda Garieri graduated from high school in1985 she thought about attending art school but decided to take some time off first. "I talked over my options with my father. Should I work in a store, or gain a trade skill? He offered to help me with cosmetology school if I promised to utilize the training I’d receive."

Garieri agreed. She graduated from Rob Roy Academy and, in 1989, opened her first salon in Charlton. A second location soon followed in Sturbridge. Then in 1996, Garieri moved her business to Southbridge. Now, Garieri is fusing her two loves. The Hair Gallery Salon and Spa at 70 Central Street in Southbridge is a synthesis of Garieri’s two passion – art and hair design. "Cosmetology really is an art form. There is true artistry to hair design."

Ms. Garieri is an innovative businesswoman. Several years ago she was the first salon to offer tanning beds in the area. This year she has renovated and expanded her salon to include a full-service day spa. "Now people won’t have to travel to Worcester or Boston for a full-service day spa. They simply have to come to Southbridge."

Employing earthen tones and arches to the interior, Garieri created a European-feel to her salon and spa. The walls are adorned with sconces, bas-reliefs, and artwork. Track lighting controlled by dimmers completes the atmosphere.

As you walk through the salon you notice select works of art. In the coming months Garieri plans to showcase works by local artists, and even her own photography. "My first salon was a wide open space. From the moment I saw it I had a vision of a salon that featured art. That’s why my first salon was called The Hair Gallery. To now have a location where I can have an actual art gallery is the culmination of a dream."

The Hair Gallery Salon and Spa has several cut and color stations, three tanning bed rooms–each named for a Caribbean Island– and one stand up, wraparound booth. The downstairs area houses the day spa featuring a large massage room for private massage or doubles. "This is ideal for couples or mother and daughter massages. I’m very pleased to have Rick and Lorna Wilson as our massage therapists. The Wilson’s offer therapeutic, deep tissue, Shiatsu, sports, and aromatherapy massages as well as clinical reflexology."

Tracy Rovezzi is the Spa’s licensed esthetician providing facials, body hair removal, and full-body seaweed wraps. The Spa hosts a nail station for manicures, hand massage, and salt scrubs, and a pedicure station complete with a heated rolling massaging chair and revitalizing mini-Jacuzzi for the feet.

Clients can relax in the common area featuring a bistro table and plush winged-back chairs while enjoying coffee, tea, or flavored water. Some Spa packages include lunch with menu selections from area restaurants delivered to the Spa and served to you by Spa staff.

The Hair Gallery Salon and Spa is located in one of Southbridge’s historic buildings. The Spa area once known as the Nipmonk Bar had a sign that read, Women Welcome, But Not Wanted. Garieri and her staff not only welcome women (and men); they "want everyone to look good, feel good, and to enjoy the luxury of the spa experience."
